Blind runner Rakshitha bags gold in 1,500m

BENGALURU: Blind runner Rakshitha Raju, who hails from Chikkamagaluru, did India proud at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou on Wednesday when she defended her gold medal in women's 1500m T11 category.

Rakshitha, who had won the gold in the Jakarta Games, defended her title clocking her personal best time of 5 minutes, 21.45 seconds. At the end of the race, the Indian had finished second behind China's Shanshan He but the host athlete was later disqualified by the technical officials for a rule violation and Rakshitha bagged the gold. India's Lalitha K, who also recorded her personal best time, won the silver in 5:48.85 followed by Kyrgyzstan's Zhuzbaev (6:31.22).
