Black Friday shoppers set for shortages of new iPhones because of supply issues

Black Friday shoppers face a shortage of iPhones as supply is hit by Covid lockdowns in Chinese factories.

Today is Black Friday - a shopping event which started in the US and often sees retailers offering big discounts.

But experts say demand for the new iPhone 14 outstrips supply, which has been hit by issues at Apple's Chinese factories.

Covid lockdowns in place in China have limited how many iPhones can be made, according to analysts at Wedbush.

Apple has also been contending with protests at its Chinese Foxconn factory, after hundreds of workers began demonstrations over pay and conditions, the Telegraph newpaper reports.

The Foxconn protests alone have cut the number of new iPhones being made by 5%.

Wedbush said many Apple retailers were already running low on the latest iPhone.

The analysts said many consumers may struggle to get hold of the latest iPhone this side of the New Year.

Apple has been approached for comment.

Earlier this month Apple warned that anyone wishing to buy a new iPhone model or device ahead of Christmas may face issues.

Apple issued a warning that supplies of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models may be running dry.

The tech giant has been hit by supply issues, meaning that customers may struggle to get their hands on these specific phones for Christmas.

Apple has also urged users to update their iPhones and iPads as soon as possible after sending out an emergency alert last week.

The update includes security fixes to block hackers from accessing people’s devices as well as the usual bug fixes.

It also fixes two security flaws identified by Google's Project Zero team.

An Apple spokesperson said: “This update includes bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users.

"A remote user may be able to cause unexpected app termination or arbitrary code execution.

“Keeping your software up to date is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your Apple product's security."

In more unusual news, Apple could buy up football club Manchester United - for £5.8billion.

It has been confirmed that the Glazer family, who own the club, have decided to put the Red Devils up for sale.

The Red Devils announced in a statement that the Glazers were exploring "strategic alternatives" and it is understood they will sell to the highest bidder.

According to the Daily Star, bosses at Apple have expressed an interest in discussing a potential deal to buy United.
