The Republic of Ireland football team wore black armbands and refused the traditional pre‑match handshake before facing Israel in a UEFA Nations League fixture in Debrecen, Hungary, after a divisive internal vote on whether to boycott the game over the war in Gaza.
The match was moved to the neutral Nagyerdei Stadion because of security concerns, and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) confirmed that no tickets were allocated to Irish supporters.
