Lancashire are currently in Dubai as part of their pre-season preparation, with both the men's and women's teams playing matches against the UAE.
Lancashire are sponsored by Emirates, a state-owned Dubai-based airline and the county visited the country to play a T20 doubleheader at the Sevens Stadium.
However, instead of having a traditional coin toss ahead of each match, each side's respective captains were asked a cricket trivia question with whoever got closest to the correct answer getting to decide whether they wanted to bat or bowl first.
When North West Thunder took on the UAE in the women's match, the captains were asked to guess the ICC rating of Australia star Beth Mooney, who is currently the number one ranked T20I batter.
UAE captain Chaya Mughal guessed 743, with North West Thunder skipper Ellie Threlkeld going higher with 767.
The correct answer was 724, meaning Mughal had won the toss and she decided to bat first.
The Thunder ultimately won that match, with Danielle Collins striking 45 not out and Laura Jackson picking up 2-15.
In the men's game, the captains were asked how many wickets the recently departed Shane Warne took in ODI cricket.
UAE skipper Alishan Sharafu took a guess with 274 while Lancashire Lightning captain Keaton Jennings confidently answered 293, revealing that he knew it was the right answer having seen the figure mentioned while the world of cricket was paying tribute to Warne following his untimely passing.
Jennings ultimately opted to bat first and scored 62 as his side made 139-5, but the UAE successfully chased down that total with an over to spare.
