Billy Vunipola handed Saracens warning but avoids suspension after Majorca arrest

Billy Vunipola can end his Saracens career on his own terms after avoiding any club suspension following his arrest in Majorca.

The England No 8 was fined 240 euros (£205) and handed a suspended sentence after being tasered and arrested in a Majorca bar on Sunday.

Vunipola returned quickly to England after the weekend, and held extended talks with Saracens, who carried out an internal investigation.

The 31-year-old will leave Saracens for Montpellier this summer, and had run the very real risk of ending his 11 years in north London on an extremely sour note.

Saracens chiefs had the ability to ban Vunipola for his conduct, and that could have left him unable to feature again in the club’s Premiership play-off push.

But now the Sarries bosses have opted just to issue Vunipola with a warning, allowing him to return to action straightaway.

“Saracens can confirm that after an internal investigation, Billy Vunipola will face no further action from the club,” read a Saracens statement.

“We condemn the behaviour and have warned Billy about his future conduct.

“We now look forward to the remainder of the Gallagher Premiership season, and consider this case closed.”

Defending champions Saracens face two more regular season matches ahead of the play-offs.

Mark McCall’s men will make the trip to Bristol on May 11, before hosting Sale Sharks in Barnet a week later.

Saracens will push for a seventh league crown in total, and currently sit second in the table behind Northampton.

Vunipola has played a pivotal role in four of Saracens’ six league titles, as well as all three of the club’s European triumphs.
