The actor, 72, once infamously said that the subject crossed his mind at least 12 times a day, but that this number has now more than doubled.
“That was quite a modest assessment. It’s probably more like 35,” he told The Guardian in a new interview.
“Not all doomy, though: mostly whether or not shoes will outlive him,” notes journalist Catherine Shoard.
“And I don’t really believe it” [that he’s going to die], the Love Actually star tells the publication. “Yeah. I know it’s gonna happen, but I think maybe at the last minute somebody might make an exception.
“But then again, I sometimes think: I don’t think I can do a lot more of this. I’ve had quite a lot on.”
His latest movie role probably has not helped in that department.
Nighy will next be seen starring alongside Aimee Lou Wood, Alex Sharp and Tom Burke in the Oliver Hermanus directed film Living, which is released in UK cinemas from November 4.
The British drama is adapted from the 1952 Japanese film Ikiru and sees Nightplay a civil servant who is told he only has six months to live.
This inspires him to move to the south coast and cram some fun into his remaining days.
There he meets a sunny young female colleague (Wood) who seems to have the pep that had previously escaped him.
