Bihar: Birthday celebrated on flyover, shots fired in air

PATNA: Celebratory firing and brandishing of arms continue in the weddings and birthday parties in the state. Another video went viral on social media on Friday in which several youngsters could be seen celebrating birthday on a flyover. Two of the youths could also be seen firing in the air.

The video was purportedly shot on AIIMS-Digha elevated road. In the video, some SUVs could be seen parked on one side of the flyover. Several youths could be seen celebrating the birthday at night. After cutting the cake and having fun, two of the youths opened fire in the air.

SHO of Rupaspur police station Madhusudan Kumar said the video was shot on April 25. However, it went viral on Friday. Kumar said they have already identified some of the youths present in the party. However, none of them was detained or arrested till Friday night. The SHO said patrolling on AIIMS-Digha elevated road has been intensified.

Celebratory firing is not new in Bihar. Even though it is illegal, the culture continues in weddings and has now even spread to birthday parties. A video clip of a wedding in Gopalganj had gone viral last month in which a man was seen dancing with a woman dancer and firing in the air. In November last year, one Vicky Kumar, 24, had died in celebratory firing at a birthday party in Patna.
