Biden's support among minority voters declines ahead of 2024 election

South Carolina is a key focus for both parties in the upcoming primary.

Title: President Biden Seeks to Secure Critical Minority Vote in South Carolina as 2024 Election Campaign Kicks Off

President Biden's focus on South Carolina has intensified as he strategically aims to secure the critical minority vote ahead of the 2024 election. As the state that turned his fortune around during the 2020 campaign, South Carolina has become a crucial battleground for Democrats. Biden's decision to prioritize South Carolina over Iowa and New Hampshire, despite facing criticism from some Democrats, demonstrates the significance he places on winning over minority voters.

Recent polls indicate a potential shift in support among minority voters, which could have significant implications for the upcoming election. In a New York Times poll, 22% of black voters in six battleground states expressed their intention to vote for Donald Trump in 2024. This represents a notable increase from previous elections, as no Republican presidential candidate since the civil rights era has received more than 13% of the black vote. Furthermore, Biden's support among black voters has witnessed a decline, with a recent USA Today poll indicating that only 63% of black voters currently support him, compared to the 87% he garnered in 2020.

The president's diminishing support is not limited to the black community. Biden has also seen a significant decline in Latino voter support, with only 34% indicating their intent to vote for him in the upcoming election, compared to the 65% he received in 2020. This decline in support among key minority groups underscores the importance of securing the minority vote for Biden's reelection prospects.

The influence of influential figures like Congressman Jim Clyburn cannot be understated in this context. Clyburn played a pivotal role in Biden's South Carolina primary win in 2020, propelling him to secure the Democratic nomination. However, even Clyburn has expressed concerns, reflecting broader worries within the Democratic Party. President Biden and the Democratic National Committee recognize the significance of the minority vote, which is why they have chosen to prioritize South Carolina as the starting point for their campaign.

Another factor impacting voter sentiment is the ongoing issue of immigration, particularly the influx of migrants into so-called sanctuary cities like Chicago. Many residents and local authorities have expressed their disapproval, citing the strain on city budgets and the lack of financial support from the federal government. The mayor of Chicago has warned that without substantial federal investment, this issue will not only affect the city but also the entire nation.

President Biden's visit to South Carolina signifies a critical step in his campaign to regain support among crucial voting groups. As swing states and even previously dependable states like Georgia show signs of wavering support, Biden seeks to reverse the downward trend by connecting with minority voters. The outcome of this concerted effort will play a significant role in shaping the 2024 election landscape.
