President Joe Biden's campaign is set to launch a new paid media blitz on Thursday night to coincide with the night's presidential debate. The campaign aims to reach a wide audience in battleground states during the historic face-off between Biden and Donald Trump.
The media blitz includes three ads that will air in key battleground states. The first ad, scheduled to run before the debate, focuses on tying Trump to restrictive abortion bans that have emerged across the country. It features a Texas woman who faced life-threatening consequences after being denied medical care following a miscarriage.
The second ad features Michigan Sheriff Chris Swanson criticizing Trump for his failure to condemn the January 6 attack on the Capitol. The third ad, set to air after the debate, highlights Trump's legal challenges and critiques his legislative track record.
These ads are part of a larger $50 million paid media buy planned for June. The selection of these specific ads by the Biden campaign underscores the key arguments the campaign wants the president to emphasize during the debate: the economy, reproductive rights, and threats to democracy.
While the campaign's editorial policy prohibits the broadcast of campaign ads during the debate, networks airing the debate have been provided with non-binding editorial guidance suggesting they refrain from airing campaign ads during the event, although they are not required to comply.
