Betting suspended on Notts County boss Ian Burchnall taking League One job

Bookmakers have suspended bets on Notts County head coach Ian Burchnall becoming the next manager of Forest Green Rovers.

Burchnall has been consistently linked with the job in recent weeks as the League One side look for a successor to Rob Edwards who left for Watford. Forest Green Rovers chairman Dale Vince heightened speculation in an interview on a podcast recently in which he said the man they wanted to speak to was still in a job.

Prior to the market closing, Burchnall was a clear 4/6 favourite to take the position in a season that has seen him linked with jobs at Lincoln, Bradford and Peterborough. Burchnall was again asked about the continued links to Rovers amid persistent rumours that they were eager to talk to him.

The Magpies boss admitted there was nothing to add having been quizzed on Rovers' interest in the aftermath of their play-off defeat to Grimsby on Monday night. But asked if he was tempted to move to League One following the victory at Maidenhead on the final day of the season, he said: "I haven't even thought about it.

"I really enjoy my place at Notts. It's a fantastic football club. I really enjoy the work I am doing. I am only focused on that. Maybe my mum is putting money on. Maybe she likes a flutter and that's why it (odds) keeps going up."

Speaking about their search for a manager after the club lifted the League Two title, Rovers chairman Dale Vince said: "We have identified the person we would like to offer the job to and are waiting for permission from his club to talk to him.

“We are taking a different approach because of our circumstance and the window to the new season has been shortened by the world cup this year, so we have less time to move, so we are going to have a quicker process.

“I don’t know what the club has had, but I have had probably like half a dozen emails from all kinds of people that are interested in the job.”
