Betting suspended on Marcelo Bielsa losing job as Leeds United manager

Major bookies have stopped taking bets tonight on Marcelo Bielsa leaving his job at Leeds United.

Leeds United ’s head coach Bielsa has been on the receiving end of mounting criticism after four heavy defeats in a row, culminating in a 4-0 hammering by Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road today.

The Argentine has refused to change his team’s playing style despite leaking goals recently and despite the team now sitting just above the relegation zone. The results have left Leeds two points above 18th-placed Burnley, who have two games in hand over Leeds.

Reports emerged on Saturday claiming Bielsa's job is under serious threat, though the Leeds manager stood firm in his post-match press conference after the Spurs defeat.

Sky Bet, one of the country’s biggest gambling firms, had Marcelo Bielsa as the most likely Premier League manager to lose his job and was taking bets until just after 6pm, at which point they suspended betting.

At the time of writing, Paddy Power was still offering bets on the next Premier League manager to lose his job, but the odds for Bielsa, by far the favourite, were 1/25. Spurs boss Antonio Conte was second placed at 15/2, while Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers was third at 10/1.

Betfair was also still taking bets, but again, Bielsa was only being offered at the extremely short odds of 1/25 to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.
