Budget airlines have issued advice about when it's best to arrive at airports ahead of flights.
This week Britain's airlines have melted down, with scenes of chaos at Manchester, Bristol and Gatwick, among others.
Having advised passengers to arrive early, now airlines are suggesting that the enormous queues are due to too many people turning up too early.
The general advice remains however, with Bristol Airport telling customers "not to arrive early as check-in and security may not be open – adding to the congestion", and Manchester Airport suggesting turning up at least two hours before flights depart.
Different airlines have different suggestions when it comes to the perfect time to arrive at an airport.
Travel updates can be made quickly and without notice so make sure that you double check with your individual airline when making your plans and prior to travel.
TUI
According to TUI's website, at UK airports bag drop desks open two to three hours before your departure time.
The company says that "If you're taking a long haul flight, we recommend you drop off your bags three hours before your flight leaves.
"Only one person from your party is required to drop off the bags, provided all passengers are travelling on the same booking reference.
"Just one of you needs to bring all printed boarding passes, passports and luggage to the Bag Drop desk, and then you can all go straight to the departure gates together with your tickets and boarding passes."
This information is for UK airports, and TUI says that at resort airports check-in desks "usually open 2 hours before departure".
At both UK airports and resort airports, desks usually close 45 minutes before departure, so make sure you've checked in at least an hour before you're due to fly.
Details of TUI's online check-in, which opens 14 days before your flight takes off, can be found on the firm's website.
Check your tickets for details on when you need to check-in and arrive at the boarding gate.
Jet2
Jet2 list its requirement depending upon airport, so you certainly need to double check the information that applies to your particular airport and destination.
For East Midlands and also Birmingham Airport, it confirms on its website that: "The check in desk will open 3 hours before departure".
Adding: "We ask all customers, with luggage to drop off, to join one queue for our all destination check in. The check in desk will close strictly 40 minutes before departure."
However, if you are flying from Manchester Airport with Jet2, the check-in desk will open 3 hours and 30 minutes before departure and close 40 minutes before lift-off.
EasyJet
EasyJet say that passengers must check their information for their own particular travel updates.
It says: "Closing times for check-in, bag drop and boarding are clearly marked on booking confirmation and boarding passes and must be adhered to at all times. Please check these before you travel."
The travel company states on its website: "You should check-in and print your boarding pass from our website or download your boarding pass on to our mobile app (if you are flying from an airport where mobile boarding passes are accepted) at least two hours prior to your scheduled departure time.
"If you change your flight or lose your boarding pass, you’ll need to re-print or download a new one.
"If you are late, you may not be allowed to fly. If you miss your flight but arrive at the airport within 2 hours following its scheduled departure, you can transfer to the next available flight by paying a Rescue Fee."
Ryanair
Ryanair has said that it recommends checking in baggage as early as possible.
According to the firm's website, the 'bag drop' desks open two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time.
It adds: "The Bag Drop desks close strictly 40 minutes before the scheduled time of departure. If you miss this deadline your booking could be cancelled without refund and you could be prevented from boarding the plane.
"It’s important that you make it to your boarding gate in good time, at least 30 minutes before your flight departure time. Boarding closes 20 minutes before departure. Please have your valid travel document and boarding pass ready at the boarding gate."
In all cases, it is important to make sure you check your tickets for details about when you need to check-in and arrive at the boarding gate.
Airports and airlines all have their own requirements.
