Sunderland fans may have caught their first glimpse of the 2022/2023 home kit after it was leaked on Twitter on the same day as the club announced their new shirt sponsor. The Black Cats announced their new principal partnership with ‘UK-based financial trading and sports betting firm’ Spreadex Sports on Wednesday morning.
The two parties have put pen to paper on a three-year deal which will include the gambling company's logo on home and away kits until the summer of 2025. That announcement was followed by an apparent leak of the club’s home shirt for their first season back in the Championship, complete with Spreadex Sports’ logo on the front.
The shirt, manufactured by Nike for the third season in a row, adorns the classic red and white stripes all over, with a black trim on the neckline and shirt sleeve cuff - reminiscent of the 2011/2012 shirt.

And Sunderland fans have had their say on Twitter regarding the new ‘leaked’ kit.
@bennnsafc tweeted: Gorgeous that, deep red, nice width stripes, striped sleeves, striped front, striped back. Couldn’t ask for any more. The sponsor lets it down a tiny bit but I think that’s the best shirt we’ve had in years
@MKA97FTM said: The new home shirt is the spit of the 2011/12 shirt. Gives me Bendtner, Seb Larsson and Ji Dong-Won flashbacks #SAFC
@cameronflaws tweeted: Don't mind it, looks a bit like the 2011/2012 kit, can't be any worse than the kit we had last time we were in the Championship #SAFC
@Phillip_RJ89 said: Love the black trim on the new home shirt- massive 2011/2012 vibes with that. Not a huge fan of the stick-on sponsor and club badge, and very mixed feelings about it being a betting company, but overall, that’s a really smart design! #SAFC
@Adam_baker1490 tweeted: Absolutely awful cheap and nasty if you ask me
@ConnorSAFC1994 said: Wouldn’t be a Sunderland pre season without a kit leak
