Many residents of the city would not even need to get into their car to find a picturesque winter walk.

Here are some of the best places for short walks or longer walks within the city and beyond.
Brooke Park
Situated in the heart of the city is a hidden gem in Brooke Park. This park, through extensive renovation, has become a picturesque haven in the middle of Derry. Walkers seeking some fresh air without overly exerting themselves will find Brooke Park perfect for their needs.
Bay Road
The Bay Road is an incredibly popular route for dog owners and walkers alike. Enjoy the circular route along the Foyle or even go as far as past the Foyle Bridge to Boom Hall. The Bay Road is also mostly flat so perfect for those searching for an easy walk.
Derry Walls
A classic Derry walking route is along the city's walls. Take in the scenery overlooking the Guildhall Square and the city's Bogside. Walkers may also be lucky to find an open café along this route to stop for a hot drink and a sit-down.
St. Columb's Park
Just across the peace bridge from Derry's city centre sits St. Columb's Park. With plenty of pathways to explore and ample parking on-hand, this park is incredibly popular for families and dog-walkers due to its circular routes. This park provides plenty to explore.
Ness Woods Country Park
Ness Wood contains one of the highest waterfalls in Northern Ireland. The Country Park is 55 hectares of woodland alongside open parkland which extends along both sides of the Burntollet River. There are over 7km of stunning woodland and riverside walks including a magnificent waterfall walk.
Roe Valley Country Park, Limavady
This scenic and tranquil park is located on the outskirts of Limavady and offers spectacular riverside views and woodland walks. The riverside walk is perfect for families, dog walkers and experienced walkers. This picturesque park is also the main habitat to a number of animals which include foxes, badgers and otters.
