As we turn into the spring, the most flattering jumpsuits are a wardrobe hero. Not only are they a fabulous alternative to event-ready dresses, but their easy-to-style appeal makes them perfect for everyday styling too. So I've rounded up my favourites, taking into consideration every occasion, body type and personal style.
Whether you're looking for date night outfit inspiration or for a stylish alternative to the best wedding guest dresses, the best jumpsuits will serve you well. They provide the perfect balance between comfort and structure, and unlike dresses or tailoring, they can work for almost any occasion. From evenings out with friends to special occasions, they truly can do it all, and they are a great choice if you're on the hunt for smart-casual outfit ideas that require minimal styling effort.
There's a multitude of cuts, styles, and patterns available, making it tricky to know where to start. The first step is knowing what to look for and considering your body type. Another thing to think about is what areas of your body you want to enhance and shape, whether that's defining your waist or elongating your legs; choosing the right cut matters.
Flattering jumpsuits: 21 flattering styles for all body types
Best jumpsuits overall

This white jumpsuit is firmly on my wishlist. It features a smart belted waist, short sleeves and a utility feel. This is the kind of jumpsuit you can reach for on days you're searching "what should I wear today?" It's versatile enough to be dressed up with heeled sandals and casual enough to work with your most comfortable trainers.

If you're heading to spring nuptials or wondering what to wear to a christening, this vibrant pink jumpsuit should be a top contender. It has a playful peplum bodice which creates the illusion of a two-piece, and features a curved barrel-leg design. Pair with silver slingback heels and a clutch, and you're good to go.

This wide-leg jumpsuit not only works for the daytime, paired with your best white trainers, but it can also be dressed up with heeled wedges. The fitted top-half and wide trousers will work wonders on pear-shaped or rectangular body types, balancing out your shape by adding volume to your lower torso.
Best jumpsuits by body shape

While you might usually lean towards dresses to hide a tummy, a jumpsuit can be a great silhouette for an apple-shaped figure. Wrap and V-necks draw the eye up to the bust and away from your middle. Look for jumpsuits that tie in the middle to help pull you in, like this vivid red choice by British clothing brand Boden.

Wide-leg trousers are great for adding curves to rectangular body types, as they help to add curves to your silhouette. This butter yellow jumpsuit is a fresh and lively addition to your spring and summer wardrobe. It features a striking crossover back and an elegantly draped wide-leg.

Mango is a hidden gem for plus-size fashion staples. This polka dot jumpsuit comes in sizes XXS-4XL, so there are plenty of size options, and it comes in a breathable linen fabric, making it ideal for the warmer season. We'd reccomend pairing this piece with some leather heeled sandals and adding a woven clutch bag.

Wide-leg trousers are a pear shape's best friend. They’ll glide and flow to create a streamlined shape. Seek jumpsuits with noticeable details around the neck or shoulder, such as this asymmetrical shoulder, which will draw the eye upward. This bright, vivid red colour works perfectly alongside bright cream or ecru.

Hourglass figures benefit from styles that are more fitted on top, and the most flattering jumpsuits will nip you in at the waist. You can easily wear tailored trousers, although slightly fuller trouser legs, like this wide-leg denim style, will accentuate your waistline, creating more exaggerated curves. We think the short-sleeve design is so chic.

The shape of this style is genius. It has a wide leg fit so it accommodates curves and balances fuller top halves, plus its waist panel is extra flattering. The loose upper half means you can find the perfect fit, and don't forget to shop our round-up of the best bras for large busts to go underneath.
Best of the rest

If you already have spring wedding invitations or are planning on Greek island hopping this year, we'd recommend snapping this design up quickly.

When thinking about the best jumpsuits, a good pair of dungarees should not be underestimated. These classic overalls are endlessly versatile, and can be layered over simple cotton t-shirts, blouses or cosy knitwear.
How to choose the right jumpsuit for you
- Age: "There is no age limit on wearing a jumpsuit, and a woman aged 50 and above could certainly wear a jumpsuit," says Rivkie Baum, digital Fashion Editor at woman&home.
- Fit and cut: Rivkie recommends: "The largest consideration one should make when choosing a jumpsuit, regardless of age, is fit and cut. Selecting a cut that feels comfortable and works for your silhouette is of utmost importance. Consider the advice above to help you narrow down the styles that will most suit you."
- Material: Find a good jumpsuit, and it will be a year-round staple, but don't forget to consider the heat. There are plenty of linen all-in-ones out there. Still, as designer Amanda Wakeley points out, "despite the ease of hopping into a jumpsuit and you are done, you don’t have the flexibility of being able to take that extra layer off."
- Event: "A jumpsuit is a great alternative to a dress for both casual and dressy occasions and can also be a comfortable option for those who prefer trousers, but want the seamlessness of a one-piece ensemble," says Rivkie.
- Body type: Amanda explains, "Generally speaking, hourglass figures look fantastic with a cinched-waist jumpsuit, whereas pear shapes may opt for a wide leg look to balance the proportions."
- Length: If you manage to find the perfect fit, but not quite the right length, chances are that it can easily be fixed with a quick trip to your local tailor.
- Price: It's worth spending a bit more than you normally might, since it's a whole outfit in one.
FAQs
Can jumpsuits be flattering?
Jumpsuits can definitely be flattering, and as with any other item of clothing in your wardrobe, it's about selecting the cut that works best for your body type. As laid out above, there are some quick and easy styling tricks to help you select the most flattering jumpsuit for your shape.
What body type looks good in a jumpsuit?
Amanda Wakeley is one of Britain’s most celebrated fashion designers, and her jumpsuits have been worn by the likes of Zara Tindall.
She explains, "There are so many different styles of jumpsuits available now that jumpsuits can look good on all body types - provided you have the right style and fit, depending on your height, size, and general body shape. If you are either very tall or petite, it can be more difficult to find a jumpsuit to fit well, like one-piece swimsuits; proportion is key.
"However, you can always create a jumpsuit look with matching separates like jeans and a denim shirt or a tailored pant and waistcoat… You may well be far more comfortable and probably quicker in the loo!"
Should you size up in a jumpsuit?
Amanda advises "NEVER worry about the size label (I appreciate this can be hard to do, so cut it out if it bothers you) but buy the size that feels the best to you. I often size up by at least one size as I prefer an easier fit (it is often more flattering too)."
If you're worried about getting a more sculpted middle, Amanda says "Denim can often be a great smoother. I would avoid any fabric with too much stretch as it tends to cling in an unflattering way."
How do you make a jumpsuit look classy?
When it comes to styling, Amanda has some great tips: "I think less is more... I love taking everyday basics and elevating them with a fabulous statement piece, whether that’s a beautiful belt, a bold necklace, or a gorgeous crossbody bag, all of which look great with a jumpsuit.
"Knowing how to layer up a jumpsuit can elevate the look - I love a turtleneck underneath in the colder months or try pairing it with an oversized blazer or relaxed trench coat to look chic from day to night."
