Best gardening tech to buy now as we hit peak summer

Currys, the tech retailer, has seen an increase in sales of garden maintenance products with lawn mowers, hedge trimmers and leaf blowers flying off the shelves. This comes as Brits swap pub gardens for home garden parties amidst the cost-of-living crisis.

Currys has seen a 21% sales spike in garden and outdoor products as well as an 83% spike in summer seasonal products such as BBQs, drills and electric garden routers, when compared with last year. Top selling items such as the BOSCH Rotak 34 R Corded Rotary Lawn Mower are up by 25% versus last year with the George Foreman Gas BBQ and the UniversalGardenTidy 3000 3740 also up by 84% and 144% respectively.

Shoppers are looking to level up their gardens for hosting outdoors this year, particularly as prices at pubs and restaurants continue to soar.

With Brits snapping up the latest in garden maintenance tech, Currys’ Home and Garden Expert, Milly Akhbari has pulled together her top tips to help shoppers glam up their gardens this summer:

Get that kerb appeal

Kerb appeal is just as important as having a neat and tidy home interior and adding areas to your garden or refurbishing your decking can set a good first impression for any potential buyers. A multifunction tool such as the Bosch Advanced Multi 18 for example is great at making plunge cuts in decking to install handrails or even under-step lighting. The Bosch 18V POWER FOR ALL Rechargeable Battery also makes adding areas to your garden hassle free.

Save water with a pressure washer…yes really!

We’ve all been there. The UK is going through a few dry summer months, and although your decking is draped in a few layers of grime and dirt, you’re worried about wasting water. Well it might surprise you to know that pressure washing (anywhere between 330 and 800 litres per hour) consumes up to 800% less water than a standard garden hose (2,000 litres per hour on average). The pressure makes the cleaning more effective and uses far less water.

But if you’re going to make full use of a pressure washer to keep your decking looking clean and crisp, don’t forget to clean the washer’s filters. The filter is the only barrier protecting the device’s motor pump from accumulating dirt and grime from the water hose – an often-fatal issue that accounts for the single most common cause of pressure washer failures.

Regular trimming keeps your lawn looking spick and span

A taller grown lawn in the garden is probably more suitable for intensive use by children or pets as it stands up to heavy wear. But if you’re looking for a more healthy-looking lawn, regular mowing is imperative. Mowing your lawn at least once a week is an important step towards keeping your lawn looking great and staying healthy. And if you’re struggling to find the time, the Bosch Indego robotic lawnmower can take on the task for you using Smart Mowing functionality.

Milly Akhbari, Home and Garden Expert, at Currys comments: “As Brits look to entertain at home this the summer rather than splash out at their local pubs and restaurants, they have found new innovative ways to glam up their gardens. With sales of garden and outdoor products spiking by 21% and summer seasonal products rising by 83%, shoppers are already investing in products to help them lap up the sun from the comfort of their homes.”
