After the sixth full slate of regular season action, the NFL and fantasy football are in full swing.
If you had a tough injury in Week 6, you just didn’t get the production from one of your players that you expected or you have a player on bye, we’ll scan the waiver wire. For potential pickups, we’ll consider players who are available in at least 50% of ESPN fantasy leagues.
Let’s take a look at some of the potential waiver wire pickups that could help your teams heading into Week 7 of the NFL campaign.
Sam Howell, QB, Washington Commanders (19.1%)
Howell’s still the best long-term option out there after our two previous recommendations. He’s put up 21.1 points per game in his last three, bringing him to the 13th-ranked fantasy quarterback on the season.
With quarterbacks dropping like flies, it might be time for some to commit to the Commanders signal caller.
Roschon Johnson, RB, Chicago Bears (41.8%)
The Bears have placed Khalil Herbert on injured reserve, meaning touches for the next four games after up for grabs.
Johnson, the fourth-round pick out of Texas, should be the favorite to take that spot once he’s cleared from his concussion.
This season he’s rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on 4.9 yards per carry, and he’s also been a factor in the receiving game, bringing in 11 catches for 58 yards.
He’s clearly the best option in a backfield that would also feature D’Onta Foreman, Travis Homer and Darrynton Evans.
Curtis Samuel, WR, Washington Commanders (28.6%)
I know what you’re thinking. “Two Washington Commanders? That’s crazy!”
But, Samuel has quietly been one of the best fantasy wideouts this year, as he’s currently ranked 26th by ESPN.
In his last three games, he’s scored 18.2, 18.5 and 14.2 points, finding the end zone in all three games.
Jonnu Smith, TE, Atlanta Falcons (14.8%)
After an abysmal stint in New England, Smith has been a factor with Atlanta this season. Following his zero-point Week 1, Smith has recorded 8.7, 8.7, 15.5, 12.7 and 13.6 points since.
He’s rostered in just 14.8% of leagues, and until the Falcons make a change at quarterback, Desmond Ridder seems to have a bit of a connection with the tight end.
Seahawks, D/ST (19.6%)
Seattle’s defense has been solid this year. Obviously, their best performance came against the New York Giants, when they scored 29.1 fantasy points due to 11 sacks, two interceptions (one of which was a pick-six) and fumble recovery).
While they likely won’t have that type of success against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7, they should be able to keep them from frequently reaching the end zone.
And, if they can force a turnover or two from Josh Dobbs, they might just be one of the top defenses for the week.
