Nipples and abs were free on the French Riviera this Thursday as celebs descended upon the red - well, technically blue - carpet for the annual amfAR Gala 2023 in support of The Foundation for AIDS Research.
There were sheer moments happening left right and centre, with Swedish model Elsa Hosk baring all underneath a dress straight from her own brand, Helsa. The dress, which also featured a cut out stomach segment, was an eggshell cream mesh creation, ruched at the bust and waist, with frilled hems.
Also repping the mesh moment was singer Troye Sivan, who’s in Cannes promoting the uber-controversial new HBO series The Idol, in which he stars. Sivan, not one to stick to a simple suit and tie on a red carpet, instead stepped out in a metallic grey Ferragamo vest with a sash that draped over one shoulder, paired with simple black trousers and shoes.
Next was designer LaQuan Smith, who also delivered a lesson in interesting menswear in his ivory sheer shirt, with oversized cuffs, plenty of jewellery and a matching skinny scarf of the same material, made by his own brand. Smith’s high-waisted white trousers were cinched with a silk cummerbund and he wore a pair of ocean blue, square-toed boots that almost matched the amfAR carpet.
Other naked dressing was present too. Lori Harvey, model and daughter of comedian Steve Harvey, bared her abs in a daring red cut out gown (also by LaQuan Smith) with the material criss-crossing across her breasts, displaying more than a little underboob and a full sized portion of ab muscles.
Her ab-baring look was rivalled only by Teyana Taylor, who revealed a whole six pack in her floor-sweeping black Mônot gown, complete with shoulder pads and a cut-out that swept deep enough to reveal her stomach and hips.
Aside from naked dressing, the other noticable trend was bridal chic, with many of the guests arriving in crisp white outfits fit for the aisle. This has been a noticable trend on red carpets as of late, especially the Oscars, where monochrome reigned supreme.
Canadian model Winnie Harlow was showstopping in an off-the-shoulder (and on-the-shoulder) pearlescent gown with huge puff sleeves on one side and a thigh high split, while Queen Latifah looked ready to officiate in a distinguished alabaster suit dress, complete with a modest train.
Also in white was plus size model Ashley Graham, who was giving off some Pretty Woman energy in her Nina Ricci powersuit and massive black hat, tied together with a polka dot black mesh neck scarf. The suit is part of Harris Reed’s first collection for Nina Ricci, debuted at Paris fashion week back in March.
