Cyber Monday 2024: From microwaves to air fryers, check out our favourite appliance deals

Running a home is expensive; even more so when the essentials break down and need replacing.

Try living without a washing machine for a week or two, or a working oven for just as long. It is utter bedlam - especially for families.

When important appliances start creaking and groaning, it’s time to start looking for replacements. The exorbitant expense puts many off - these things don’t come cheap, after all - unless you’re canny enough to wait until the end of November.

That’s when a small shopping window known as Black Friday opens for one weekend, making upgrading your home electricals a little easier on your finances.

Top household appliance deals

What deals on household appliances to expect?

From TVs and toasters to tumble dryers, home electricals and tech brands are preparing a banquet of bargains that will let you bring home big-ticket items for much less.

From kitchen fridges, washing machines and air fryers to vacuum cleaners, TVs, heaters, electric blankets and more, we’re likely to see prices so low they’ll have you rubbing your eyes in disbelief.

We know you can’t schedule a fridge, oven or washing machine breakdown - if only! - but with Black Friday now here, we’ve rounded up the best offers below.

MIELE Complete C3 Active Cylinder Bagged Vacuum Cleaner - Petrol Blue

With incredible suction powered by 890W, Miele’s C3 makes light work of housework. It comes with a HEPA filter to capture 99.9 per cent of fine dust and allergens that become airborne when cleaning and comes with a range of nozzle attachments to see to practically any job.

That said, the hardworking floorhead works across most surfaces although there is a special one to use on parquet flooring. Instead of on the vacuum’s body, the control buttons sit in the handle, making it easier to switch between programmes.

And when it comes to programmes, this baby is loaded with everything from soft furnishings and curtains to rugs and hard floors with an additional silence option for cleaning quietly.

Sage SMO870 Combi Wave™ 3-in-1 Microwave

Best for: an air fry function

Mini ovens are great, but when they have more than one function, such as doubling up as an air fryer and microwave too, it not only feels like a massive bonus, but it also means less clutter on your kitchen workspace.

The Sage Combi Wave is just this – with its main function to oven cook food, it also has an air fry function and works as an inverter microwave. The oven is packed with algorithms, which apparently steers the heat to the parts of the food which need it – meaning no burning, just food cooked thoroughly throughout. Perfect.

Other pre-sets include fast combi and cooking from frozen, while it also has a child lock for ease of mind.

If you like a quiet kitchen then you’re in luck - the oven has just been granted a Quiet Mark certification for its unique almost soundless close door feature and for its acoustic performance while its working.

Ninja Combi 12-In-1 Multi-Cooker, Oven & Air Fryer

Taking individual kitchen appliances and parcelling them up into countertop-friendly dimensions measuring 33 x 39 x 38cm, Ninja's Combi gadget really does do it all.

A dozen functions are packed into this thing, all navigated on the boxy control panel on the front: Combi Meals, Combi Crisp, Combi Bake, Rice/Pasta, Sear/Sauté, Steam, Slow Cook, Prove, Bake, Reheat, Air Fry & Grill, meaning it is so much more than simply a microwave.

Helpfully, the design features a viewing hatch on the front (and features a front door opening, ideal if you're living with low-set kitchen cupboards), so you can see if food is done ahead of the timer pinging or if your ingredients could do with a quick stir. You'll get a trio of accessories with it too: a baking tray, combi pan and crisper plate. Ninja has even bunged in a recipe guide, ready to flick through for inspiration.

Lakeland Stoneware Tagine 1.2L

A traditional stoneware cooking pot from Lakeland, this terracotta tagine is hand-painted and glazed. Although not suitable for use on hobs, the tagine is oven-safe up to 230oC and is also freezer and dishwasher-safe.

With a 28 centimetre diameter, the tagine holds up to 1.2 litres, which is large enough to feed a couple, or a small family or is ideal for use as an attractive serving vessel. It’s also worth noting that the quality is better than expected given the price. The lid doesn’t have a ventilation hole, which will allow even more steam and moisture to build, ultimately making dishes far more succulent overall. While we suggest taking care to avoid breaking the fragile tagine, Lakeland’s three-year guarantee is also included when purchasing.

NINJA Double Stack XL SL400UKWH Air Fryer - White

Best for: double dinner magic

We love our air fryers, but often it's a case of the beauty lying within. Typically offered in black or grey, air fryers aren't usually going to win any beauty contests.

It seems like one of the UK's biggest brands has been paying attention to this, because Ninja Kitchen has released an all-white collection that will fit in more seamlessly with kitchen palettes. What’s more, it’s been given the Marco Pierre White seal of approval, and if it’s good enough for the celebrated chef, who are we to argue?

This double-stack Ninja air fryer comes with two cooking baskets with a combined capacity of 9.5L. There are six preset functions and you can set both zones to finish cooking at the same time, even if they're at different modes or temperatures. It means dinner will be ready at the same time - no letting the chips go cold while waiting for the nuggets to cook.

Sold with a two-year guarantee.

Its full touch control electric panel makes it super easy to operate the microwave too.

Ninja 3-in-1 Food Processor & Blender

While few of us have our very own sous chef on hand to make life easier in the kitchen, this sturdy dream machine is the next best option. Unlike any other food processor we tested, it takes the guesswork out of cooking for top-notch results every time. Add an accessory and Ninja’s Auto-IQ technology will calculate exactly what program you will need and how long it should run for. It’s easy to override this and use the controls manually instead, but we found the automatic settings worked brilliantly for everything from cake mixes to chopped vegetables.

Everything you need is inside the box including a dough blade and reversible slicing/grating disc though beware, this is brutally sharp. Removable parts are all dishwasher safe for easy cleaning too. The machine also comes with a 2.1 litre blender jug and an additional 700ml single serve cup which is great for whizzing up individual drinks on the go.

Our only complaint? The powerful 1200W motor is seriously noisy so might not be the best choice in an open-plan kitchen or small flat unless you’re actively trying to annoy your neighbours.

BLACK+DECKER 63099 3-Tier Heated Clothes Airer Aluminium

Poor weather means drying clothes outside needs to be curtailed until spring. A heated clothes rack can get your washing dry in half the time as a standard one, especially if you use a cover.

BLACK+DECKER's version can accommodate up to 15kg of washing over 21m of drying space, spread over 3-tiers so you won't have to wait long for one batch to dry before hanging another.

Hotpoint H3D91WBUK 9kg

Best for: Big brand features at a smaller price

This is another hot option from Hotpoint. Incidentally, appliance fact fans, the name comes from the ‘hottest point’ of the first ever electric iron that automatically turned off when the optimum temperature was reached, invented by US colonial and company founder Earl Richardson in 1905. It might come up in a pub quiz.

The nattily named H3D91WBUK may come B-rated for energy efficiency, but this three- to four-person suitable spin dryer weighs in on average at using 616kWh of precious power annually, which, using the equation from my grown-up journalist article on appliance energy consumption works out at a £209.44 yearly running cost.

Not only is the H3Dblah-blah-blah reasonably inexpensive to run, it also features a full 15 drying programmes to deal with anything from delicates to allergies thanks to HP’s Anti-Allergy programme removing 99.9 per cent of bacteria and dust mites from your fabrics, so not only will your laundry be squeaky dry, it’ll also keep your skin from becoming a blotchy mess.

Add to that an Anti-Crease programme to cut down on ironing and another cycle specifically there to purge the aqua pura from your towels, and the Hotpoint H3D91WBUK – currently reduced by £80 at AO – is an efficient, inexpensive answer to many of life’s condenser tumble dryer questions.

Indesit I2D81W 8kg

Best for: Smaller loads, smaller price

Cutting price considerably now, down to just over £200 while still covering most laundry drying bases, the Indesit I2D81W doesn’t come blessed with the same ‘Push&Go’ tech of its earlier bigger sibling, but what it does have is ‘Turn&Go’ which offer all the same instant convenience but utilising a slightly different manoeuvre made obvious in the name. This means that, while you can carefully set it for synthetics and other delicates alike, it can also be primed just to go through the usual daily drying process at the ‘turn’ of a button.

Rated as a ‘B’ in the energy efficiency stakes, average annual electricity usage is reckoned around 560.6kWh, which will see your yearly drying bill come in at a crisp tenner under £200 (going off the current 34p price cap), which is remarkably reasonable.

A smaller 8kg drum makes light work of the laundry load of couples, and while there is no crease control function to stop you from having to slave over a hot iron, nothing specific for synthetics, or indeed different fabric demands, the Indesit I2D81W can still get the drying daily grind done and at an entry price and energy efficiency that’ll help keep the pounds out of the grasping hands of the power companies at the energy crisis continues.

Tefal GC722D40 Optigrill Plus X-Large Grill

This is not your average toastie maker. This model from Tefal is a full-on grill with heaps of automatic programmes to cook a whole host of common dishes, including burgers, sandwiches, sausages, fish, seafood and pork.

There is also the ability to control it manually with four adjustable temperature settings and an indicator to ensure that your meat is cooked to your specific preference whether you like it rare or well done. The plates are removable, dishwasher-safe, non-stick and there is a drip tray included for ease in cleaning.

It can serve up to eight people and will make sure that you never have undercooked food again.

Sage The Smart Oven Pro BOV820BSS

You may never turn your oven on again with Sage’s Smart Oven Pro in your kitchen - and really, why would you? This baby has it all, from 10 pre-set functions to bake, roast and toast and a ‘Slow Cook’ option that automatically keeps food warm for up to two hours once the timer has counted down, helpful if your cooking has been interrupted unexpectedly by kids/ pets/ life. It doesn’t air fry though, so if that’s a deal-breaker, opt for Sage’s 3-in-1 machine above.

While the pre-set functions are a godsend when you want to get dinner ready quickly, it’s also simple to use manually with the large dial controls and clear LED display, letting you use Sage’s 21L device like a regular oven - just minus the bigger footprint.

Cleaning is well considered too, with a pull-out drip tray that comes out to allow you to catch every splash, stain and crumb.

Accessories-wise, you can use most of your existing cookware in this device, but it also comes with a 30cm non-stick pizza pan and a 28 x 33.5cm enamel tin complete with a grilling and wire roasting rack to help you cook your meals.

Panasonic DS59 Combi Steam Oven

Panasonic has been making microwave ovens since 1966 so they know a thing or two about what goes into making a fantastic one.

Its latest model is the DS59, which gives good reason to retire (almost) all your other kitchen appliances. Alongside the usual microwave and top-bottom oven heat, the Panasonic Combi will steam and grill ingredients too, offering four functions in one.

Use it to low-fat fry veg to get them crispy without using as much oil (or zapping the nutrients). The clever Grill Tray features grooves to funnel away excess fat and leave food crispy all the way around without the need to turn or shake it in between cooking times. The machine also features Panasonic’s energy-efficient Inverter Technology, which cuts down cooking times by as much as 40 per cent. To make operation even easier, there’s a menu of 28 pre-set auto programs including steaming rice and baking bread.

It’s perfect for small kitchens; small and compact with a contemporary design that will suit modern spaces. The main compartment can hold 27L, so there’s no need to buy special cookware - what you’ve already got in your cupboards should work perfectly well.

When is Black Friday 2024?

Black Friday kicked off on November 29!

When does Black Friday end?

The event runs through the weekend and usually finishes with a flourish of firework-worthy offers on Cyber Monday.

This year, Cyber Monday is on December 2.

Why is it called Black Friday?

A memorable name for an epic sale, the term Black Friday entered the global lexicon in the 50s when Philadelphia streets became clogged with car fumes as families rushed to the sales the day after Thanksgiving.

While we may not celebrate the holiday here in the UK, we can give thanks for the dramatic deals that are laid on instead.
