Bernd Leno’s agent suggests client should be Arsenal’s first-choice with more clubs thrown into transfer mix

Joannis Koukoutrigas, the agent of Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno, claims his client should be the “the clear No.1” at the club.

The signing of Aaron Ramsdale was mocked in some circles last summer but the former Sheffield United stopper limited Leno to only four Premier League appearances.

Newly-promoted Fulham are interested in a move for the German international after exploring a potential deal to bring Alphonse Areola back to Craven Cottage, though West Ham are more likely to sign the Frenchman.

Leno is into the final year of his Arsenal contract and Mikel Arteta will welcome USA international Matt Turner into his squad when they report for pre-season duty at the start of next month as he joins from MLS side New England Revolution.

The club are open to selling the former Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper, who has made 125 appearances for Arsenal since his arrival in the summer of 2018.

Koukoutrigas confirmed Fulham are “trying hard” to sign Leno when speaking to German outlet BILD though hinted there was more interest in his client.

“He is a German national goalkeeper, has always performed well at Arsenal and is an absolute team player,” he said.

“For me personally, Bernd is also the clear No.1 at Arsenal. With all due respect to the competitors.

“Fulham is trying hard to get Bernd. Very professionally. This is also true for some other clubs and shows his status. But, as I said, for me he is the No.1 at Arsenal and we are therefore also relaxed.”
