Bernadette Connolly: Irish public pays sympathies to family ahead of funeral

The public has rallied around the family of Bernadette Connolly ahead of her funeral this week.

The Dublin mum's body was found on a beach in Blackpool, daughter Jade confirmed on Thursday in a heartbreaking Instagram post.

Bernadette went missing on January 7 and Jade launched a high-profile campaign to find her mother.

She wrote on Thursday: "I write this message with a heavy heart.

"My family and I have received tragic news that a woman's body was recovered from a beach in Blackpool UK and is confirmed to be my beloved mam, Bernadette Connolly.

"We will always remember her smile, strong character and love."

Bernadette will be laid to rest on Wednesday, with a funeral mass taking place at St. Cronan’s Church, Brackenstown at 12 o'clock.

Her RIP.ie death notice reads: "CONNOLLY, Bernadette (Swords) - January 7th, 2022. Taken too soon and deeply missed by her loving daughter Jade, Jade's partner Dillin, her heartbroken parents Patrick and Nuala, brothers Des and Anthony, sister Madeline, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends."

Hundreds of people have written condolences to the Connolly family on RIP.ie.

One wrote: "Jade, I followed your story for the last few weeks. Your love for your dear Mam shone through every word. May she now watch over you from above.

"You are a wonderful daughter and she would be very proud of you. You never gave up. So sad for you and all the family. Rest In Peace Bernadette."

Another said: "Condolences to Bernadette's family, I've cried so many tears for you all, I've said so many prayers hoping your pain will be eased. Know that Bernadette was loved by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her, l'm lucky to have been one of those people."

A third wrote: "Condolences to all the family. The whole country are thinking of you and keeping you all in our prayers. May Bernadette rest in eternal peace."
