Woman accused of blackmailing MLA complains of police harassment

Rajkumar Patil Telkur, MLA, Sedam

The woman who has been accused of blackmailing Rajkumar Patil Telkur, Sedam MLA, and is being probed by the Vidhana Soudha police, has approached the city Police Commissioner alleging harassment from the police.

Speaking to the media, she alleged that Mr. Telkur is a childhood friend and had promised to take care of their son. “If he is accusing me of blackmailing him, let him confront me and swear on his family god,” she challenged.

She claimed that Mr. Telkur and his wife had met her in a star hotel a few days ago and he promised to take care of their son. If the police are investigating the case, let them access the CCTV camera footage, she said.

Accusing the Vidhana Soudha police of harassment, she said that a team of police barged into her apartment on Sunday morning and took her to the station for inquiry. “I was held up at the station from morning to 9 p.m. I had left children back at the apartment without attention and care for the entire day. The police also took away my mobile phone and one of the police personnel beat up a security guard who came to question the police,” she alleged.

“Even now, a group of policemen are deployed outside my apartment to keep a watch on me. Is this not harassment?” she questioned.

Advocate Jagadish Kumar, who accompanied the victim, said the police action amounts to trespass, illegal detention, and harassment. If they have a case against her, let them arrest her, but this is clear harassment, he said.

The woman said she would fight the case legally to get justice for their son.
