BENGALURU: An unsolicited message that led to tens of payments being made in search of escorts for weeks led this city-based divorced man to one place: The police station! Weeks after he clicked on the first link, he is yet to receive any service. But the escort portal has shaved off his earnings one click at a time, costing him Rs 30 lakh in total.
The victim is Rao (name changed), a freelance software developer staying alone in a flat at Kodichikkanahalli near Bommanahalli. This is not the first time he has been tricked by cybercriminals. He had lost over Rs 4 lakh in the last week of December 2019 to a similar fraud.
