KOLKATA: There’s good news for the Bengal chess fraternity as the state’s two Grandmasters ended on podiums in European tournaments. While GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly ended second at the La Plagne International Open in France, GM Deep Sengupta claimed the Warsaw International chess festival this week. Both the players were tied for first place, but while Ganguly ended second on tie-break, Sengupta finished on top on the same criteria.
Four players ended with seven points in the nine-round tournament and India’s six-time national champion Ganguly finally finished behind GM Joseph Girel.
