Kolkata, Nearly 79 per cent of around 5.24 lakh electors in Nandigram and Rejinagar exercised their franchise till 5 pm on Tuesday, as voting in the two high-stakes West Bengal Assembly bypolls was marked by allegations of sporadic violence, voter intimidation and polling irregularities.
Nandigram recorded 79.39 per cent turnout and Rejinagar 78.42 per cent by 5 pm with voters still in queue, the EC said. Votes will be counted on October 9.
