Benfica take a commanding lead into tonight’s Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Club Brugge.
The Lisbon giants beat Scott Parker’s side 2-0 in Belgium last month and look a safe bet to reach the last eight for the second consecutive season. Unbeaten in 12 games, there is a real confidence about Roger Schmidt’s men despite the January loss of World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea.
Parker, meanwhile, has struggled since his surprise appointment by Brugge in December. 11 games have yielded only two wins and there are widespread reports that the former Fulham and Bournemouth manager is under huge pressure. Losing 3-0 to relegation-threatened Oostende was hardly ideal preparation for a big trip to the Portuguese capital.
