Newcastle United have been given a timeline on when Goncalo Ramos could be available for a transfer from Benfica.
The Magpies are interested in the striker but have been told to bid north of £35million for his services. But even if they do meet Benfica's demands it is now understood that the Portuguese giants want to keep hold of the 21-year-old until after their Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kiev.
The first leg of the clash takes place on August 17 with the game being played in Poland due to the Russia-Ukraine war before the second leg takes place in Lisbon a week later.
Should Benfica make it into the group stages - and enjoy the financial benefits of the Champions League - the Ramos deal may be sanctioned. Newcastle and Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in Ramos but he has also been looked at by Leeds.
The final week of the window may prove to be crucial for the future of Ramos. When asked about Ramos' future, Benfica boss Roger Schmidt simply said: "I saw him play with a lot of passion for Benfica". But privately he is understood to be resigned to losing the young star sooner or later.
