Ben Davies delivers honest Mikel Arteta verdict ahead of Tottenham vs Arsenal North London Derby

We are now just two days away from a mouth-watering North London Derby as Arsenal travel to N17 to take on fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

The Gunners recorded a 3-1 victory over Antonio Conte's side in the corresponding fixture at the Emirates Stadium back in October in a game that saw Spurs defender Emerson Royal receive a controversial red card for a reckless challenge on Gabriel Martinelli.

But Spurs will be hoping recent history repeats itself considering the home team haven't lost a North London Derby in the league since 2013/14, when Thomas Rosicky's superb second-minute effort secured Arsene Wenger's men all three points at White Hart Lane.

Mikel Arteta played the full 90 minutes for Arsenal that day and the Spaniard will be keen for a similar result on Sunday afternoon as he looks to clinch his first away win in this fixture as the Gunners' head coach.

Arteta has done a superb job this season, guiding his side to the summit of the league table, five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City and 11 points clear of Tottenham in fifth.

Now, Spurs defender Ben Davies has hailed the job done by the Spaniard, who faced considerable criticism after his side's late-season collapse last May saw them finish below the Lillywhites, securing Conte's side a place in this season's UEFA Champions League in the process.

"What Arteta has done has been very good", Davies said when asked about the 40-year-old.

“But I’m sure there were very tough times for him when things weren’t going their way. So credit to the club for sticking by him, it seems to be paying dividends.”
