A heartbreaking video shows the moment King Charles finished delivering his first speech to the nation as the new monarch.
King Charles III assumed the throne on Thursday evening after his mother, Her Majesty The Queen, died peacefully aged 96 at her Balmoral home in Scotland.
Just 24 hours later, he made a heartfelt speech to the world on live television.
He paid tribute to his 'darling mama' who served a monumental 70 years on the throne.
In footage released by Buckingham Palace after the speech, a teary-eyed Charles sat at the desk in the same room his mother delivered countless Queen's Speeches on Christmas Day.
Sat next to a portrait of his late mother, King Charles wore a suit and tie, as he spoke with camera crew and photographers.
He appeared almost tearful as a wave of emotion swept over him.
Surrounded by cameras and photographers, he asks 'am I done?', as he gets ready to reunite with his family as they continue to grieve together.
Describing Queen Elizabeth II's time on the throne, King Charles told the nation: "I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow.
"Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen - my beloved Mother - was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example.
"Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today."
He recognised that people will be grieving all over the world, in the same way as he is, while his own family also have time to reflect and remember Britain's longest-reigning monarch.
The new King added: 'In 1947, on her 21st birthday, she pledged in a broadcast from Cape Town to the Commonwealth to devote her life, whether it be short or long, to the service of her peoples.
"That was more than a promise: it was a profound personal commitment which defined her whole life. She made sacrifices for duty.
"Her dedication and devotion as Sovereign never waivered, through times of change and progress, through times of joy and celebration, and through times of sadness and loss.
"In her life of service we saw that abiding love of tradition, together with that fearless embrace of progress, which make us great as Nations. The affection, admiration and respect she inspired became the hallmark of her reign.
"And, as every member of my family can testify, she combined these qualities with warmth, humour and an unerring ability always to see the best in people."
"I pay tribute to my Mother's memory and I honour her life of service. I know that her death brings great sadness to so many of you and I share that sense of loss, beyond measure, with you all."
In the video, a vase decorated with corgis can be seen - in a touching tribute to The Queen, who is known for being very fond of her corgis.
Meanwhile as a symbol of remembrance, sweet peas and sprigs or rosemary covered the table next to King Charles.
During the speech, King Charles also gave Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton the titles of 'Prince and Princess of Wales'.
It was a hugely historical moment, as Catherine now assumes the title which was last held by her husband's mother, the late Princess Diana.
King Charles was today officially proclaimed King at the Accession Council in central London, while his coronation will take place in a few months. No exact date has yet been given.
