Behind Bommadevara’s historic World Cup Final gold lies a family story of commitment, belief; he targets Asian Games glory next

Remember the name” — a catchphrase that found its way into folklore courtesy Ian Bishop. Originally coined for Carlos Brathwaite after his manic last over heroics in the 2016 T20 World Cup Final, it perfectly describes Dhiraj Bommadevara.

A Subedar in the Indian Army, Bommadevara created history on Sunday in Saltillo, Mexico by becoming the first Indian man to win individual recurve gold at the Archery World Cup Final, subduing Japan’s Nakanishi Junya in a nerve-tingling shoot-off.
