The Chicago Bears have some pressing needs in free agency, where wide receiver and offensive line are atop the list on offense.
While we’re merely hours into the legal tampering period, the Bears have been linked to a handful of receivers including JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Christian Kirk, who just signed a massive contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Kirk signed a four-year deal worth $72 million with a maximum value of $84 million. That’s $18 million a year, which makes Kirk a top-10-paid wide receiver in the league.
While the important thing is to build around quarterback Justin Fields, Kirk’s $18 million per year deal would’ve been a huge overpay by Chicago, especially with a slew of other needs. Heck, the Bears could’ve even landed Allen Robinson for $18 million per year.

Smith-Schuster, Valdes-Scantling and DJ Chark remain free-agent options for the Bears. But it’s looking more likely that wide receiver will be among the first positions addressed in the NFL draft.
With Kirk landing $18 million per year, you have to wonder what that means for Robinson, who should garner a hefty contract, and any other potential wideouts Chicago could target in free agency.
