Bears HC Matt Eberflus feels ‘good’ about progress of injured players

The Chicago Bears have a long list of injured players heading into the second week of the preseason, which features some prominent starters on offense and defense.

Right guard Nate Davis made his return to Bears practice in a limited fashion on Monday, an encouraging development considering he’s missed most of training camp. But there are still a handful of starters who remain sidelined.

Among the players who didn’t practice included linebacker, Tremaine Edmunds, safety Jaquan Brisker, wide receiver Chase Claypool, defensive end DeMarcus Walker, offensive lineman Lucas Patrick, running back Trestan Ebner, cornerback Terell Smith, cornerback Josh Blackwell and linebackers Dylan Cole, DeMarquis Gates and Buddy Johnson.

Head coach Matt Eberflus reiterated he feels good about the statuses of those injured players, saying they’re “on track” in their recovery and doesn’t expect any of them to be long-term concerns.

“We feel good where everybody is,” Eberflus said Monday. “The guys that are doing the therapy and rehab and all that are all on track.”

As the Bears head to Indianapolis, Eberflus said most players will make the trip for what’s a pair of joint practices and a preseason game against the Colts.
