BBC The Split: Start date for the final series of the Nicola Walker drama

Popular BBC drama The Split, featuring well-loved actress Nicola Walker back in her lead role of Hannah Defoe, has been confirmed to be returning to BBC One. The third and final series of the show will continue to follow Hannah as she tackles her own divorce.

Following the family of the all-female lawyers, the Defoes, the series explores beyond their professional lives to their messy and complicated personal lives. In the last series viewers saw how Hannah's rock-solid marriage to Nathan, played by Stephen Mangan, fell apart due to her affair with her previous partner Christie, played by Barry Atsma.

Series three of The Split will begin on Monday, April, 4, and will show Hannah and Nathan trying to navigate their own divorce while balancing their careers. With the return of Christie, who is sure to make matters more complicated, will Hannah and Nathan be able to come to an amicable agreement?

Previously viewers have also followed the lives of the Defoe sisters - Nina Defoe, who is also a lawyer and part of the family firm and who is played by Annabel Scholey, and Rose Defoe, who is the only family member who is not a lawyer and she is played by Fiona Button. Their mother Ruth Defoe is played by Deborah Findlay.

Speaking about the third series Nicola said: “I can’t wait to be back in the Defoe Family, we are all looking forward to the journey Abi has planned for us. I don’t know if Hannah will cling to the wreckage or walk away, but I do know it’s going to be a fantastic ride.”

Recently it has been announced that Nicola Walker will star in another relationship-based drama for the BBC, Marriage, alongside Sean Bean, and her replacement for the ITV series Unforgotten has been announced as Sinead Keenan.
