BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent has spoken out to react to the news that Dan Walker is quitting the show for a job at Channel 5, saying the pair are 'friends,' not just colleagues.
Dan got rather emotional last year when his long serving co-host Louise Minchin left the programme after close to two decades of presenting it. And now, the Strictly 2021 contestant is following Louise, who went onto star in I'm A Celebrity, out of the door.
Dan shocked BBC viewers when he shared a post from Channel 5 confirming his new role as host of 5 News. In a video that accompanied the tweet, Dan said: "I'm really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me as I love BBC Breakfast, I love working alongside Sally (Nugent) and I love the team there.

"But Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans and I don't think opportunities like this come along very often and I can't wait."
Before appearing on Tuesday's BBC Breakfast alongside Dan, Sally took to Twitter to break her silence on his job news. Sharing the video, she wrote: "We’re not just colleagues but we’re friends too. Dan is simply brilliant to sit next to. I will miss him. Go and be fabulous."
Just like Dan's many followers, Sally, who was handed the BBC Breakfast job after Louise's exit, sparked quite a reaction from her own fans on social media. One replied: "Sally you will have another partner in crime soon I’m sure but I’ve loved you both together. Over the years we watched lots of lovely partnerships on the couch - everyone is so lovely to each other so I’m sure the friendships will go on."
A second told her: "Even before you two were officially paired (and you were always brilliant with Louise) the chemistry in those sports segments or holiday rotas was just different! Shame it didn't last long but wishing you all the very best!"
