THE BBC is developing a drama series about one of Scotland’s most notorious serial killers, according to a report.
Deadline reports that the currently untitled show about the serial killer known as Bible John is currently in the early stages of development with the BBC’s drama division.
The publication also reports that Buccaneer Media, which previously produced Irvine Welsh adaptation Crime, is behind the project.
Bible John is believed to have murdered three women – Patricia Docker, Jemima MacDonald and Helen Puttock – between 1968 and 69 in Glasgow.
He has never been found despite several suspects being linked to the case.
The case has previously attracted plenty of media attention in recent years.
A BBC Sounds podcast, Bible John: Creation of a Serial Killer, was launched in 2022 while BBC Scotland had previously broadcast a two-part documentary titled The Hunt for Bible John.
The podcast even prompted police to re-examine the case while a number of books have also been written on the subject.
The broadcaster has previously turned to two-crime dramas with Deadline reporting that one of its most popular dramas last year was The Sixth Commandment – a drama based on the murder and attempted murder of two church goers in England.
Other broadcasters have also produced dramas on real-life serial killers in recent years, including STV’s Des which starred David Tennant as serial killer Dennis Nilsen.
The BBC declined to comment when approached by The National.
