BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood left red-faced as she’s dragged off camera by dog at Wimbledon

BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood doesn’t have much luck when it comes to broadcasting alongside dogs – something that was again demonstrated on Tuesday’s BBC Breakfast during a particularly chaotic moment.

The show’s resident weather presenter was broadcasting live from Wimbledon to celebrate the start of the annual tennis tournament, giving viewers her usual rundown on the day’s forecast.

During her segment, Kirkwood was joined by one of the Wimbledon search dogs, Ray.

Beaming into the Salford studio via videolink, the presenter said to co-hosts Sally Nugent and John Kay: “Isn’t he the most gorgeous boy?” about the pooch.

Before adding: “This is Ray, he is going to be five in August, and he is one of the search dogs here.

“Whilst we have been waiting for you to come to us, he has been sat there like a gentleman just looking ahead at his trainer and just being perfect. I don’t even know what the weather is today, I am so distracted.”

After giving her forecast, the weather expert then commented on how well Ray had behaved, pointing out he had “hardly moved”.

However, it seems as though Kirkwood spoke too soon, as the dog then proceeded to race off and yank the lead she was holding, dragging her across the floor.

Back in the studio, Sally exclaimed: “Oh no, oh Carol! Kirkwood down. It has happened again. Is she okay? Are you okay? Are you alright?”

“Yes!” a laughing Carol assured them, before she referenced a similar incident that happened live on air in 2021: “I can’t believe this has happened again. Chelsea Flower Show all over again!”

They’re not the only unfortunate canine-related incidents she’s had on BBC Breakfast, memorably she got the phrases “dog walkers” and “joggers” mixed up while on-air, leading to a hilarious Freudian slip.
