Michael Gove was compared to comic Harry Enfield after behaving oddly on BBC Breakfast.
Levelling Up Secretary Michael went viral after he changed his voice like an impressionist as he appeared live from Westminster for a chat with presenters.
During the segment, the Aberdeen-born Tory minister appeared to turn Cockney for an impression of Enfield’s famous ‘calm down, calm down’ Scouse character.
Making various changes to his voice throughout the chat, he said: “We are constantly looking at ideas to relieve the pressure on people facing incredibly tough times, but that does not amount to an ‘emergency budget’, which is what some people immediately thought it did.
"It is an example of some commentators chasing their own tails, and trying to take a statement that is commonsensical, turning it into a major ‘capital letter big news story’. In fact, when the treasury say ‘calm down’, then people say instead of recognising they have over-inflated the story in the first place, then say ‘this is clearly a split’.”
One person noted on Twitter: "Gove on @BBCBreakfast today was nothing but bizarre making strange voices, odd very odd"
Another said: "A truly bizarre romp from "doesn't have a scooby" to Harry Enfield's Scouser "calm down". What did Gove have for breakfast today?"
As others compared him to a Thunderbird character without the strings, someone else quipped: "Is Michael Gove alright?"
And another questioned: "Who put 2p in Michael Gove this morning? #BBCBreakfast "
