BBC Better's cast and what else they have starred in as Leeds series debuts

The first episode of a five-part thriller will air on BBC One tonight.

Better will hit our TV screens on Monday night (February 13). The BBC thriller set in a world where everyone has their own version of 'right' and 'wrong,' follows Lou and Col, played by Leila Farzad and Andrew Buchan who struck a deal 19 years ago that changed their lives forever.

The new series comes from the same producers as Chernobyl and This Is Going To Hurt, and is written by Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent. And stars an amazing cast complete with quite a few familiar faces.

Leila Farzad

Leila Farzad (Gerard Binks)

Leila Farzad is an English actress taking a lead role as corrupt cop DCI Lou Slack in the five-part thriller.

She is best known for playing Naomi Jones in the Sky Atlantic series I Hate Suzie, which earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 2021 BAFTA awards.

Andrew Buchan

Andrew Buchan (Gerard Binks)

Andrew is starring in BBC One’s new five-part series, Better, as Col McHugh, a property developer whose easy-going persona disguises the ruthlessness of a drugs kingpin.

He is known for his roles as Mark Latimer in the ITV drama Broadchurch, as Scott Foster in the BBC political drama Party Animals, as John Mercer in ITV drama series The Fixer, and as William Garrow in BBC period drama Garrow's Law.

Samuel Edward-Cook

Samuel is taking on the role of Lou's husband, Ceri, in Better.

He is an English actor known for his roles as Walter Storey in the BBC drama series Land Girls, as Danny Whizz-Bang in the BBC drama series Peaky Blinders, and as DC Steve Beckton in the ITV drama series Innocent.

Carolin Stoltz

Carolin Stoltz will play Alma McHugh in Better, Alma is Col McHugh's - the lead role - partner in the series.

Carolin is a Swedish actress, who is best known for her role as Ukrainian immigrant Olena Petrovich in TV soap Emmerdale.

Zak Ford-Williams

Zak plays the character Owen in BBC One's Better.

Zak is also appearing as Tyler in Sky's WOLFE with Babou Ceesay and is playing Young Jacob Marley and Tiny Tim in The Nottingham Playhouse's upcoming production of A Christmas Carol, which will also be moving to London in December.

Kaya Moore

Kaya Moore will play Noel Wilkes, who is one of Col's treasured employees who has also grown to know Lou well over the years.

The actor has starred in Waterloo Road, Vera and Love, Lies and Records.

Anton Lesser

Anton Lesser will play Vernon, a crooked ex-detective.

He is an English actor well known for his roles as Qyburn in the HBO series Game of Thrones, Thomas More in Wolf Hall, Prime Minister Harold Macmillan in The Crown, Prime Minister Clement Attlee in A United Kingdom, Chief Superintendent Bright in Endeavour and Major Partagaz in Star Wars: Andor.

Ceallach Spellman

Ceallach Spellman will feature as Donal in Better.

The English actor and presenter is best known for playing Matthew Williams in the revival of ITV drama Cold Feet, Harry Fisher in the BBC One school-based drama Waterloo Road from 2010 to 2011 and hosting Friday Download and various other programmes on CBBC.

Olivia Nakintu

Olivia Nakintu will play DC Esther Okoye in Better.

She is known for her roles in Am I Being Unreasonable? (2022), Vera (2011) and Better (2023).

Joseph Steyne

Joseph Steyne will play Joleon in BBC One's Better

He is known for his roles in The War Below (2021), Bad Girls (1999) and The Seditionist (2018).

Anthony Lewis

Junade Khan will play DS Pritam Khan in Better.

Junade was born in 1982 in Sheffield and is best known for his role in Game of Thrones.

Gavin Spokes

Gavin Spokes will play DI Phil Cowper in Better.

Gavin Spokes is an English actor and producer. He is probably best known for the 2012 drama She Stoops to Conquer, Utopia (2013) and Warrior Kings (2002). He is also known for House of the Dragon (2022), The Ipcress File (2022) and Hitmen (2020).

Charley Webb

Emmerdale’s Charley Webb will be starring in the cast of the BBC One drama as Elise.

Charley is known for playing Debbie Dingle in the ITV soap Emmerdale and this will be the star’s first acting role since she left the show.

Jamie Dorrington

Jamie Dorrington will feature as a police officer in Better.

He is an actor known for his roles in Emmerdale (2018) Happy Valley , To Walk Invisible: The Bronte Sisters and Ackley Bridge.

Better will air on Monday, February 13 with episodes airing weekly on BBC One at 9pm. All episodes will be available to stream as a boxset on iPlayer as well.
