Bayern Munich have already issued their Serge Gnabry stance amid Manchester United transfer links

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has already refused to rule out the prospect of the German giants being forced to sell winger Serge Gnabry this summer amid reports linking him with a move to Manchester United.

According to a report by The Sun, the Germany international has made his way onto United's 'radar' as they step up their pursuit of a new right-sided winger. Ajax ace Antony has been installed as the Reds' top target to strengthen that area of the pitch, but Ajax's demands could prove difficult for the club to meet.

The Brazilian, who United boss Erik ten Hag knows inside out from his time in charge in Amsterdam, excelled last season, scoring 12 goals and grabbing ten assists, before his season was brought to an abrupt ending in March because of an ankle injury. He would add a mixture of pace, skill and trickery to United's squad.

However, reports elsewhere have suggested that United are keeping their options open, with Gnabry having reportedly made his way into their thoughts. Also being linked with a move to Manchester City, the former Arsenal winger, who has excelled for Bayern since joining them from Werder Bremen in 2017, is out of contract at the Allianz Arena next summer and talks over a new deal have stalled, plunging his future at the Bundesliga heavyweights into doubt.

Bayern, who have bolstered their attacking options already this summer with the signing of Sadio Mane from Liverpool, want to keep hold of Gnabry and tie him down to a new deal. However, they have accepted that they must do what is right for the 26-year-old, should he not be willing to sign a new contract.

"We really want to keep him," said Salihamidzic, speaking last month. "We would love to extend with him. I think we showed him the necessary appreciation. I hope that he chooses FC Bayern.

"We will intensify the talks over the next few weeks. But if a player doesn't want to decide for the club then it's only fair to tell us so that we can find a solution that makes everyone happy."

The winger, who was once famously dubbed as not being 'good enough' for West Bromwich Albion by Tony Pulis, has gone from strength-to-strength over the last few years, establishing himself as one of the best wingers in the world. He has netted 64 goals and claimed 40 assists in 171 appearances for Bayern, proving himself as one of their most consistent performers over the last few seasons.

Furthermore, he has also excelled on the international stage, scoring 20 goals and grabbing eight assists in just 34 caps for Germany. He marked his senior debut for Germany by scoring a hat-trick in an 8-0 win over San Marino in November 2016.
