Barry Ferguson issues Rangers defence for Douglas Park but Middle East example prompts big money takeover theory

Barry Ferguson says chairman Douglas Park has put his 'money where his mouth is' when it comes to Rangers - and would be willing to step aside if big cash came in for the club.

The Ibrox board have come under fire after the League Cup final loss to Celtic prompting debate on the long-term direction of the club. Fans unveiled a banner during Saturday's 3-1 win over Kilmarnock telling the Rangers board that they took their eyes 'off the ball' after Premiership title 55 in 2021 but Ferguson says Park has invested in the Light Blues.

The Record Sport columnist and former captain knows the Ibrox owner personally, believing that he'd act in Rangers' best interests should investment arrive from somewhere like Saudi Arabia, or other wealthy backers. He told Go Radio amid the fan unrest: "I get asked about the board situation and I know Douglas Park very well. I am not just saying this because I know him.

"But he has put his money where his mouth is. I am sure if an investor came in from the middle east let's say for talking sake, and is willing to invest in Rangers hundreds of millions, I am sure Douglas Park would step aside and allow that to happen if it was all good to go. There's no doubt in my mind. But that's just an example."

Ferguson says there's an issue of consistency with Beale's side on the park after a strong first half against Killie was followed up by a slower tempo in the second. He added: "That's a problem he has identified.

"They can go and show real quality for parts of the game and then in other games they look a totally different team. They did play some real good stuff."
