(Picture: REUTERS)A barrage of Russian missile strikes struck Ukraine’s capital on Sunday, the capital’s mayor has reported.
Vitali Klitschko said on the Telegram messaging app that a number of unspecified “infrastructure targets” were hit, injuring one person who was taken to hospital. No one was killed following the attack.
After Russian troops refocused efforts in the eastern Donbas region, Kyiv has not seen similar air strikes since April 28.
The missile strikes hit the Darnytski and Dniprovski districts in the city, reports have stated.
Another air strike was reported in the eastern city of Kramatorsk by its mayor, Oleksandr Goncharenko. No-one was killed in the attack, he said, but two of the city’s enterprises suffered “significant damage”.
On Sunday morning, Ukraine's General Staff accused Russian forces of using phosphorus munitions in the Kharkiv region and said Moscow continues to carry out missile and air strikes on military and civilian infrastructure, including in Kyiv.
The General Staff said in its morning update that the Russian troops used phosphorus munitions in the area of the Cherkaski Tyshky village in the Kharkiv region. The claim could not be independently verified.
Ukrainian officials that Russian forces were continuing attacks around the city fo Severodonetsk in the eastern Luhansk region, one of two key cities left to be captured there.
On Saturday, however, Ukrainain officials said they had retaken 20 per cent of the territory around the city.
Ukrainian governor Serhiy Haidai said: “As soon as we have enough Western long-range weapons, we will push their artillery away from our positions. And then, believe me, the Russian infantry, they will just run.”
Earlier in the week, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky sid Russian forces now control a fifth of the country.
"All combat-ready Russian military formations are involved in this aggression," he told MPs via videolink.
