Barnsley boss Poya Asbaghi snaps back at Cardiff City as he brands behaviour 'ridiculous' after ugly fallout

Barnsley boss Poya Asbaghi has given his take on the post-match fracas at Oakwell on Wednesday night.

Following Cardiff City's 1-0 win over the Tykes things descended into chaos. Bluebirds boss Steve Morison produced an impassioned fist-pump in front of the travelling supporters in south Yorkshire, right near the corner flag where the tunnel back to the changing room begins.

Tykes assistant coach Joseph Laumann was immediately behind Morison, who attempted to usher him down the tunnel. But the Barnsley man took umbrage with Morison and, by the look of videos which have emerged from the away end after the match, appeared to nudge him out of the way.

Minutes before, Laumann was seen squaring up to Bluebirds assistant boss Mark Hudson on the touchline following the final whistle.

Morison lifted the lid on the reason behind the coming-together, stating that the dangerous challenge from Mads Andersen on Alfie Doughty and Barnsley's off-pitch gamesmanship riled the Bluebirds contingent.

"That's why there was so much passion at the end, because that was a really naughty tackle," Morison said. "They were flipping crap. They were hiding towels for the long throws and just being really nasty.

"Do you know what happens when people do that? They get their comeuppance at the end and this is karma.

"Karma came and bit them in the a**e today."

He added: "The assistant manager didn't like the fact that they lost. He didn't handle it very well.

"It was fine. He just picked the wrong person."

Now, Barnsley have given their version of events.

While admitting that the reaction of his assistant, Laumann, was wrong, Asbaghi claimed that Cardiff could have been more magnanimous in victory.

"I knew when I came to England that you have to be ready for the verbal communication from opponents which is different to what I am used to," he said.

"They argue and complain and scream. I like that, I find it charming and fun. It puts intensity into the game. But it has to stop after the final whistle.

"If you are the coach of Cardiff and you just won a game like that, you should come and say thank you. We went to him to say congratulations and he said really bad things. Then my assistant coach reacts to what he said which is wrong.

"Congratulations to Cardiff but they didn't win with style today. Please show a bit of sportsmanship, the way they behaved was ridiculous."

It is not the first time the Barnsley coaching staff have found themselves in hot water this season, though.

Laumann was individually fined £2,500 for his part in a post-match set-to against Stoke City back in October after receiving a red card from referee Leigh Doughty.

An FA report following that match found Laumann guilty of "taking hold of" and "confronting" Potters assistant Dean Holden, before then Barnsley assistant Tonda Eckert "slapped Holden once to the head/neck area before grabbing and pulling at him".

Laumann was suspended for two matches following that incident, while the Tykes were fined £8,000 as a club.
