Barista who taught herself to embroider launches positive clothing line

When she's not serving coffee as a Starbucks' barista Danielle Nice is working on her own clothing brand - be nice clothing. The 27-year-old, who works in the Newark branch of the coffee shop chain, has recently launched her first collection of T-shirts and hoodies with the slogan 'be a nice human' and 'nice to see you'.

She has designed and embroidered them herself from her home in Lincoln, since moving there from Newark. Her latest range features sweatshirts and T-shirts saying 'talk a little nicer to yourself'.

Danielle, who taught herself how to embroider, said: "I thought I’d take advantage of my great surname and make empowering and positive affirmations to be put on clothing, mainly hoping to make people feel happy and to make them smile. I have so many ideas for my clothing brand and would absolutely love to widen my audience. I’ve put a lot of time, effort and passion into this."

The unisex clothes are sold through her website benice-clothing.co.uk, with T-shirts priced £21.99 and hoodies £29.99 and everyone who orders gets a discount code for their next purchase.

Since starting at the end of last year, her side hustle has been going really well. Danielle said: "The response has been amazing. I genuinely wake up excited every day to see what orders I have, the likes, and the shares. The people that see me at Starbucks make my day too.

"I get congratulated, I get comments on how good everything looks, and I even get customers wearing my products. That makes all the stress worth it. I’m super grateful for all the orders I’ve had so far and I try to make that known on social media and in person.

"I absolutely think people are too hard on themselves at the minute! Especially me too. I’d love nothing more for someone to see clothing that I’ve designed as a little reminder to talk a little nicer to themselves. Even if it just makes them smile, I’ll be happy.

"Nobody is perfect and I think we all should try and remember that, so being nice to yourself and others would make a difference to the world, especially at the minute with how everything is and the pressure that is put on everyone. Having a surname like mine also helps, it makes sense really. Thanks mum and dad!"
