Barcelona president gives update on transfer chase for Man City star Bernardo Silva

Barcelona have indicated that they have bigger priorities than Bernardo Silva in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

The Catalan club are trying to sign the Manchester City star for the second successive summer but are yet to table a bid. For all the talk drumming up a transfer, a move has never been close for one of City's best assets.

Barcelona have sold off various rights this summer in order to alleviate their difficult financial situation and raise money to spend in the transfer window. However, they have already bought Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde this summer as well as signing Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie on free transfers.

Joan Laporta, the club president, said that coach Xavi is still looking to add to their team. However, he added that they must now be focused on ensuring that they can register the players that they have signed before they think about trying to push harder for Bernardo Silva.

Speaking at the unveiling of former Sevilla defender Kounde, Laporta was asked about Bernardo and responded: "Bernardo Silva? First we have to register the players we have signed and that's what we're working on.

"Also resolve the futures of the players not in the manager's plans. First we have to do that. After, we will see what we can do. The coach wants more reinforcements."

Bernardo started for City in their Community Shield defeat to Liverpool and Pep Guardiola has said before this summer that he expects the player will remain at the Etihad.
