Barcelona have pledged support to the family of a construction worker who died during the ongoing renovation of Camp Nou.
Catalan regional police said that the 54-year-old man is believed to have died as a result of “a blow” while working on the redevelopment on Friday.
Emergency services were called to the stadium but were unable to save his life and an investigation into the incident is underway.
The club released a statement sending their condolences and offering support to the man’s family.
It read: “FC Barcelona deeply regrets the death of the worker who lost his life yesterday in the workplace accident that occurred during the renovation works at Spotify Camp Nou.
“The club wishes to express its deepest condolences and extend its heartfelt support to his family, friends, and colleagues. FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta wishes to personally convey his condolences to the family and places himself at their disposal on behalf of the entire club.”
Construction work began on Camp Nou in June 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2028.
The capacity of the iconic ground is set to be increased to 105,000 and while Barcelona temporarily used the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys during the early stages of the work, they returned to play home games at the Nou Camp in November 2025.
They won 19 out of 20 games there since moving back but capacity is limited while construction work, which has faced numerous delays and rising costs, continues.
