Barcelona give update on Lamine Yamal injury scare before World Cup

  • Barcelona's Lamine Yamal sustained a hamstring injury in his left leg during the club's 1-0 La Liga victory over Celta Vigo on Wednesday, where he scored the winning goal from a penalty.
  • The 18-year-old was forced off the pitch after scoring, immediately signalling discomfort and collapsing, which led to concerns about the severity of his condition.
  • Following medical tests, Barcelona confirmed that Yamal has a hamstring injury (biceps femoris muscle) and will undergo a conservative treatment plan.
  • The injury means Yamal will be sidelined for the remainder of Barcelona's season, though the club currently holds a nine-point lead at the top of La Liga.
  • Despite missing the rest of the club season, Lamine Yamal is expected to recover in time to represent Spain at the World Cup, with their campaign commencing on 15 June against Cape Verde.
