Barcelona eye Romelu Lukaku after failed Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski transfer bids

FC Barcelona are interested in signing Chelsea and Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku, according to reports in Spain.

The Blaugrana are supposedly in desperate need of a new number nine next season, amid troubled attempts to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. Now, as per a report from Marca, Romelu Lukaku is Barca's Plan C.

Lukaku faces a summer of uncertainty given his underwhelming return to the Premier League this season. The 28-year-old has found the net just 12 times in total for the Blues, of which only five have come in the league.

The Belgian re-joined Chelsea for a fee of around £97.5million last summer and has courted controversy during his time at Stamford Bridge. An eye-opening interview towards the end of last year saw him admit that he was 'not happy' at the club. Since then, the forward has struggled to nail down a place in the side, with Timo Werner and Kai Havertz often preferred.

As he's still struggling and rumoured to be earning a mammoth £350,000 a week in west London, the Blues may wish to cash-in on him if they can. They won't be able to do that until the sale of the club is completed, however.

Luckily, there's more clarity on that situation now. The consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly has been selected as the preferred bidder for the Blues and has reportedly secured a period of exclusivity as it attempts to complete its multi-billion pound takeover from Roman Abramovich.
