Barbour releases limited edition Beaufort Jacket to celebrate item’s 40th anniversary

Barbour is a British brand beloved by celebrities and royals alike. Forever synonymous with countryside rambles, the brand has been seen on everyone from Alexa Chung, David Beckham, and Fearne Cotton, to Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate Middleton and the late Queen Elizabeth II.

In fact, Barbour’s chairperson Dame Margaret Barbour once told BBC’s Woman’s Hour that the Queen loved her original Barbour so much that she refused to accept a new one for her Diamond Jubilee.

The brand began in 1894 in South Shields, the same location where the factory is based to this day. The business has been passed down through the family and is now a fifth-generation family-owned business known best for its classic wax jackets.

Perhaps the most recognisable of these jackets is the Barbour Beaufort Jacket, which was first released in 1983.

The jacket was designed by Dame Barbour and includes a brown corduroy collar, large two-way chunky zip, handwarmer and bellow pockets and a full-width rear zipped pocket in a classic 6oz waxed cotton.

Designed as a men’s jacket (although it has been seen on influencer Olivia Palermo), the classic jacket currently retails for £289 and has over 100 five-star reviews.

Now, to celebrate the jacket’s 40th anniversary, Barbour is releasing the Beaufort Jacket in three new colourways: sage, olive, and navy.

These new hues have all the features of the original jacket, but they also include a special edition back neck label marking the 40th anniversary and studs engraved with ‘Beaufort 40’.

In addition to the new colours, 40  Barbour Re-Loved Beaufort Jackets will be available. This will involve taking jackets that the previous owner no longer wants, cleaning them, re-waxing them and repairing them so they are ready for a new owner. Each of the pre-loved Jackets is unique so you know you’ll be grabbing yourself something that feels like it’s one of a kind while also being good for the environment.

Here’s to another 40.
