Northside residents and workers woke up to emergency services responding to a suspected arson incident on Thursday morning.
Police were called to the blaze reported at Most Valuable Barber on Challis Street, Dickson in the early hours of Thursday, August 20.
ACT Fire and Rescue tape blocked a section of the footpath preventing access to the Dickson barbershop.
Four police officers were seen at the scene about 8.30am along with an ACT Fire and Rescue commander.
A large floor fan could be seen ventilating the area which had a stench of smoke and burnt furniture.
Neighbouring businesses said the incident was being cleaned up when they arrived to open their shops.
A passer-by seen speaking to police said there was a break-in reported at the business about 3am.
An ACT Policing spokesman said the emergency services were called to the scene about 3.50pm.
One of the barbershop's entry doors had been smashed with broken glass on the floor in and outside the business.
Police are treating the fire as a suspicious incident and an investigation is under way to determine the cause.
There were no injuries reported.
