Some Brits may be wondering whether they will be able to access their banks as the UK moves into a period of official grieving. It comes after the Queen died at Balmoral yesterday, aged 96.
Her passing will affect many things over the coming days and weeks, as the country will now observe royal mourning, which will take place until seven days after the Queen’s funeral. Her funeral is likely to take place on Monday, September 19 - but the date has not been officially confirmed at this time
Today, major bank and building society branches appear to be open, including Lloyds, NatWest, HSBC, Barclays, Santander and Nationwide, reports the Mirror. More details are expected to be announced in the coming days, so this information might be subject to change.
Official Government guidance currently states: "There is no obligation on organisations to suspend business during the National Mourning period. Depending on the nature and location of their business and the tone of planned events, some businesses may wish to consider closing or postponing events, especially on the day of the State Funeral, however this is at the discretion of individual businesses."
The day of the Queen's funeral will be a Day of National Mourning, but employers will not be compelled to give staff a day off. There will be a national bank holiday, following church services and memorial services across the UK. The service will take place at Westminster Abbey, and a two-minute silence will be held across the UK at noon.
As with shops and office, it is up to the individual pub or chain to decide whether to close. Many people were in pubs across the country last night raising a toast to Her Majesty.
Most shops and supermarkets are open too. All the major supermarkets - Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi, Sainsbury's, Marks & Spencer and Waitrose - don't appear to have adjusted their opening times.
Supermarkets have been posting tributes to Her Majesty online and have changed the colour of their social media logos to black as a mark of respect. Shops like Poundland, Primark and Boots all appear to be open as normal as well. Selfridges is the biggest brand to stay closed today, as a mark of respect for the Queen.
